Something about stuffed toys..

I have a weakness for cats, of both the live and the stuffed variety. Naturally, any decent friend of mine would have gotten me a stuffed cat at some time or other, given that 1) I'm sure to appreciate it, and 2) I can't keep a live one for a pet.

In particular, there is an adorable black stuffed cat with big eyes and a yellow collar. It was a gift from someone many moons ago. Some time ago, I brought it to my office to put on top of my monitor, because it was beginning to look rather bored at home.

A colleague of mine, the Chinese towkay character, mentioned to me a few times that perhaps it was the black cat that was giving me so much problems at work. Heeding his advice to me seemed a tad superstitious, so I did nothing about the black cat.

One particularly slow morning in office, we were discussing the merits of good fengshui when he once again mentioned the inauspicious black cat. For the sheer fun of it, I moved the cat from the top of my monitor to his desk. He had a lot of trouble at work the rest of that day. Mere coincidence, I decided. The next day, I moved the cat from his desk to my boss' desk. Shortly after that, a chain of events that was almost catastrophic in nature happened to my boss at work.

Too much of a coincidence for me. The black stuffed cat is now permanently relocated from my office back to my house. I decided that perhaps the aura in office did not sit well with it.

I have a sharp jabbing pain between my shoulder ribs. I'm thinking it's the way I always slouch when I'm at my PC.

Or maybe age is just catching up on me.

Listening to Virgin Radio makes me feel surreal. I hear reports on slow traffic in Kent and Wolverhampton, and the DJ speaks with an unmistakable Brit accent. How virtually whimsical.

Perhaps a person can only feel whimsical about a place he's never been to. Have you been to London? Whimsical and poetic? Never. No-one in his right mind would feel wistful about London. Excited maybe. Curious probably. Most likely, disgusted - if you have been there. To be fair, I've only been there in transit. Trust me, that was enough.

More about London next time.
